AF Building Design provides design, drafting and documentation services for the residential and small commercial market working alongside custom home and small commercial builders.

History

AF Building Design began in 2005 as a side project for Company founder Andrew Foster, as he was consistently requested to create designs outside of his paid employment as a design and draftsman for an Adelaide custom home builder.

AF Building Design’s first major project was a $450,000, 220 seat, auditorium for Marion Christian Church at Sturt Road, Marion in 2005.  An ambitious project for a young solo designer, this design needed to remove the existing 140 seat auditorium (dated 1971), retain all of the existing amenities such as toilets and kitchen and create a new contemporary space for a modern church community on a high exposure site.

In mid 2009, due to project demand, Andrew left his employment to pursue AF Building Design full time. Since this time, AF Building Design has continue to grow and has been involved in various projects around South Australia and has volunteered its services to community development projects overseas.

With an extensive background in difficult and sloping sites, AF Building Design believes that great design incorporates innovative solutions to satisfy the desires of the client and the needs of the site. Whether it’s a new home, renovation or addition, the need for creative solutions is paramount in order to create a home, or space, that really “works”, looks great and feels great to be in, no matter the architectural style.

AF Building Design is inspired about your vision and great design. It’s your vision, it is YOU, that is the foundation of each AFBD design. Every design decision and inspiration comes from your vision and your hopes for the finished home or space for the years ahead. AF Building Design believes that your home or space should reflect who you are and what you are about, from sizes, shapes, materials and features. Our desire is that you will “own” the finished product as though you designed it yourself.

Lead Designer and Director – Andrew Foster

Andrew Foster and his wife Rachael are Directors of AF Building Design.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Design Studies from Adelaide University with a major in Architectural Studies. Andrew has completed the Building Design and Drafting diploma course at TAFE SA for further study and has worked as a Building Designer since 2004.

Andrew, Rachael and their three kids, live in a home they designed on a sloping site in the Adelaide Hills. They are passionate about their faith, social justice, community development and all things South Australia.
